What is Murano glass?

Murano is an island off Venice, Italy, which is world-renowned for its glass art and the craftsmanship behind it. In 1291, the Italian government decided, due to the risk of fire, that the glassblowers could only work on the island of Murano. In the past 700 years, everything from the glass bottle to the mirror was invented by Murano glassblowers.

However, Murano is far more than just a beautiful island. Being a Murano glassblower is a special certification and a stamp of quality in itself. It typically takes 7-10 years to become a Murano glassblower and is thus reserved for the very best.

Discover original Murano mushroom lamps from Italy

If you don't already know about the vintage Murano mushroom lamp, you have something very special waiting for you. In the 1960s/70s, the mushroom-shaped lamp was born and in recent years it has really become sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts. The design was developed by Murano glassblowers and the lamp was blown out of one piece of glass - the most recognizable is the model with the Murano Vetri label with swirl pattern.

Recognize the genuine Murano mushroom lamps

The iconic vintage Murano mushroom table lamps are mouth-blown in a single piece of glass, which most people can imagine requires both strength and skilled craftsmanship to master. In addition to the shape, a swirl pattern is often created, which lies twisted in the glass. The pattern really comes into its own when it is lit - and the structure can usually be felt when the hands are allowed to wander over the glass. It is a piece of handicraft that appeals to the senses and at the same time creates a cozy atmosphere in your home.

To become a Murano glassblower, you need 8-10 years of apprenticeship. It therefore takes a long time to master the craft, and most glass techniques require an enormous amount of precision and practice. Some Murano techniques take a long time to work with before the result is complete. The result is some of the special characteristics and incredible quality that characterize an original Murano mushroom lamp.
