The beautiful Murano chandeliers originate from the island of Murano in northern Italy and can be dated back hundreds of years. In fact, glass has been blown on the island of Murano since 1291, when the Venetian government decided to send the glassblowers out due to the risk of fire. Through the following hundreds of years, the island has been primarily inhabited by the glassblowers and their families.
The glassblowers on Murano island
Being a Murano glassblower is a special training that takes place on the island by other Maestros. It typically takes 8-10 years, during which the glassblowers are trained in specific techniques. For most Mastroes, it is a lifelong dedication to working with glass and learning the traditional techniques behind it. Only one generation ago, there were around 3000 Maestros on the island, but today there are only around 300 and as time goes on, there will be fewer who master the techniques behind the beautiful chandeliers. To that extent, it is a craft that has faded into obscurity.
Create atmosphere with a chandelier
They are known to impress and they do so to that degree. Almost regardless of which one you choose, a chandelier can change the mood and expression of the room completely. The reflections of the light in the crystal prisms also provide an incredibly fine light. At www.muranovintage.com you can find everything from smaller chandeliers to the absolutely magnificent chandeliers that are ideal for a large living room or in a hall - your guests will never forget it.
Choose the right size and design for your home
A chandelier can be both the focal point of a room or it can be an element of your decor. If you are going to use it above your dining table, we recommend a chandelier with a pendant suspension and let it hang down over the table. If, on the other hand, it is to be used in the middle of the room, you can both choose a chandelier with suspension, but you can also choose one that sits closer to the ceiling.
Should it be with colored glass or should it be in crystal
A Murano chandelier gets a lot of attention and the question is often whether it should be with colored glass or classic in crystal glass. A Murano chandelier in soft pink, cream yellow or red colored glass can appear daring and exciting in the Nordic interior style. Consider which shade will best compliment the walls and the rest of the room. The fine glass is a perfect contrast to other materials in your home such as different fabrics and woodwork. Even a faint shade can make a big difference.
Authentic and Original Murano Chandeliers
It can be difficult to ascertain whether a chandelier is actually Murano. At Murano Vintage, we specialize in hand-blown Venetian chandeliers. We collaborate with a small family-owned glassblower on the island of Murano, who can still mouth blow the beautiful prisms in various designs.
